comprising three bowls, each with a porcelain body decorated with bright, polychrome colours, featuring medallions containting alternating figural scenes and depictions of floral bouquet with birds and butterflies, against a ground of stylised lotus blossoms, the exterior with two inscribed roundels
Condition
The large bowl in overall good condition, one of the smaller bowls also in good condition with some rubbing to exterior resulting in some loss of gold paint, minor areas of flaking to paint also on interior, the other small bowl with areas of flaking and loss to paint, particularly to interior and a little on exterior, as viewed.

‘Commissioned by His Excellency, the Auspicious, the most Glorious, the Most high, the Most noble, the Eminent Sultan Mas’ud Mirza Yamin al-Dawla Zill al-Sultan’
A plate in the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco (inv. no.1999.40) features the same design and date as two of these bowls, indicating that it may have belonged to the same set commissioned for Mas’ud Mirza Zill al-Sultan of Persia, with a porcelain body associated with the Qing dynasty in China. One of these bowls, of a slightly later date, was probably from the same production line, testifying to the enduring popularity of this set.
