Catalogue Note

Mediha Sultana was the daughter of Gulustu Kadın Efendi, the Circassian wife of Sultan Abdulmecid (r.1839-61). Her brother was Sultan Mehmed VI, the thirty-sixth and last Sultan of the Ottoman empire, reigning from 1918-22. A similar small round portrait of Princess Atiye Sultana, a daughter of Sultan Mahmud II, was sold in these rooms 24 April 2013, lot 98.
