A polychrome Kutahya bottle vase, Turkey, 18th century

painted under the glaze with purple, turquoise, cobalt blue, yellow and relief red feathery floral stems

The rim broken and restored with associated overspray, very few minor hairline cracks to glaze on surface, one small chip, colours overall bright, some abrasion to base, as viewed.

This vase, of unusual form, was most probably an imitation of an earlier metalwork prototype. Two vases of similar shape are in the Suna and Inan Kiraç collection (see Akalin and Bilgi 1997, p.66, no.47 and p.103, no.124).
