Description

  • 39cm. 15¼in. high
with three narrow silvered chapter rings for hours, minutes and seconds above a plaque signed French, Royal exchange, London, horizontal fusee and chain movement with architectural rafter frame with ball and spire finial, well-turned knopped pillars and six-spoke wheels, the seconds wheel arbor connected, by means of a crank wheel with fine rack and pinion adjustment, to a platform below pivoted on knife edges with sixteen grooves running from back to front, a seconds indicator traversing the centre and activated by the tipping of the platform, a polished steel ball driven by the effects of gravity running along the grooves and releasing a lever, every thirty seconds, at the end of each run and thereby causing the platform to tip, the whole supported within a brass frame with slender tapered Doric pillars at the corners with ball and spire finials on stepped plinths, circular supports for the platform knife edge and raised on adjustable ball feet, a spirit level along the lower front edge

Condition

Appears to be complete but very much in need of a clean, dials and plaque would benefit from re-silvering. With steel ball but no winder.
