in the manner of Jacob-Desmalter, the upper section with a glazed front and hinged side doors enclosing a mirrored interior within a framework cast with classical figures and on turned columns, the frieze of the lower section applied with reliefs of neo-classical figures and scenes supported by winged harpy monopodia on claw feet, with a mirrored backboard and inward curved platform base
Provenance
Purchased by the present owner in these Rooms,19th and 20th Century Furniture and Decorations, 3rd October 1997, lot 247.
Condition
An impressive piece in overall good conserved condition. Good quality craftsmanship and the mounts are beautifully cast on the winged monopodia. The glazed mirrored back on the upper section is possibly a later relacement. The mirror on the base of the upper section looks original. The lower section has some scuffs scratches and minor losses to the veneer to the top and a restored vertical crack which has been well executed and there are some deep scratches but these will be covered up by the upper section when assembled. There is possibly a replacement to the rear left corner to the veneer of the concave frieze but this has been well executed and hardly noticeable. Very minor hair cracks in the veneer on the platform base which are hardly noticeable. Very minor chip to the veneer of the rear right pilaster.
