the cylindrical body inset with ivory panels carved in relief with bacchic figures above a wide band of cast and chased rose and vine scrolls, on four ivy-draped mask supports, the detachable cover surmounted by a carved ivory group of dancing nymphs and putti among shells and rose garlands above the similarly-worked silver border, apparently unmarked
Condition
Large and imposing. Silver excellent quality. Ivoy on body in good condition. One nymph on lid lacking fore-arm. She and the putto beside her have been re-attached. One seated putto above lacking hand.
