Catalogue Note
Often in musician troupes at this date, the figures portrayed are exaggerated into grotesque caricatures. In this case, the figures are sympathetically carved as individuals with distinct personalities reminiscent of Shakespeare's treatment of the Rude Mechanicals in A Midsummer's Night's Dream.
