cast, the shaped circular bases with lion masks and flowering foliage below demi-cherub stems and detachable nozzles, four of the bases engraved with a crest
Condition
All clearly hallmarked on bases, exuberant rococo casting, normal wear to highlights, the bases and nozzles have French control marks, nozzles otherwise appear to be unmarked aside from one which shows traces of the maker's mark, two examples with repairs at join of stem and base, otherwise overall good honest condition.

Catalogue Note
The crest (an estoile of six points) may be that of Dawson.
For a pair of gothic pattern salvers, Edward Wakelin, London, 1755, engraved with the same crest and the arms of Dawson impaling Fermor, see Sotheby's, London, 11 march 1993, lot 204. These salvers originally belonged to Thomas Dawson (1725-1813), MP for county Monaghan from 1749 to 1768, was created Baron Dartry of Dawson's Grove in 1770 and Viscount Cremorne in 1785.
