by James Shoolbred & Co, with brass mounts and galleries, the top with a drawer stamped JAS SHOOLBRED & CO and kite registration mark and with an enamel label to the back JAMES SHOOLBRED & CO/ TOTTENHAM HOUSE/ TOTTENHAM COURT ROAD/LONDON, with an undertier and twin removable drip pans

This is in good restored condition and is ready to place.

Catalogue Note

The firm of James Shoolbred and Co. was established circa 1870, later expanding to become one of the first great department stores in London on the Tottenham Court Road. Shortly afterwards they branched out into the furniture trade as cabinet makers. The firm was renowned for the quality of its wares and was issued with a Royal warrant in the mid 1880s.

For comparison another walnut example was sold Christie`s London, Furniture, Sculpture and Carpets, 11th September 2008, lot 116, sold £8500.
