Description
- gilt-bronze, bronze, marble
- each 118cm. high; 3ft. 10½in.
each with a standing neo-classical female figure in drapery supporting an oak leaf entwined pole in each hand issuing two pairs of acanthus cast scrolled candelabra terminating in a winged female bust supporting on her head an athènienne with rams' masks, the frontal one suspending floral swags, on hoof feet surmounted by a further foliate cast stem issuing five candlearms on a plinth base applied with a ribbon-tied laurel wreath above a border of stylised anthemions
Condition
In overall good restored condition. Colour of the gilding is more golden, figures are less black and of a more dark olive green patination and the marble bases are lighter in colour and more natural and attractive than in the catalogue photograph. Some very minor and some medium sized chips to the marble bases which can easily be restored. The bases have both been restored in the past with some areas of dark green infill. Some minor wear to the gilding on the nozzles. Both candelabra have had various repairs and resoldering over the years but this has been well executed. The central nozzle on one is a little wobbly and needs securing but this can easily be done.
