Catalogue Note
Henry Daniel learnt his skill as a porcelain painter at Spode. In his early career he would experiment with recipes resulting in new shades of colours. By 1822 he founded his own factory and was later joined by his son Richard to form H. & R. Daniel. After leaving Swansea, William Pollard began work for H. & R. Daniel in 1822 and remained there until 1827. This is confirmed by a letter that Pollard wrote to his son in 1854, reproduced by A. E. Jones and Leslie Joseph, Swansea Porcelain Shapes and Decoration, 1988, pp. 40-41.
