A rare Meissen Böttger porcelain Dutch-decorated teapot and cover, circa 1713

Description

  • 11.5cm., 4 1/2 in. high
of globular form painted in thickly applied enamels with winged insects above flowering peonies and prunus, the cover with a similar flowering branch and insect, minor chips and haircrack.

Condition

There are two chips to the rim of the cover and some nibbling chips to the flange. There is a flat shallow chip to the rim of the teapot, and a chip to the tip of the spout with a resulting hairline crack measuring approximately 1.1 cm. long.

A slightly later Meissen teapot with a serpent spout and scroll handle with very similar Dutch decoration of flowering peonies and prunus, was in The Delphinium Collection, sold at Bonham's, London, 20th March 2013, lot 13.
