Description

  • A gold and enamel snuff box, Hanau, circa 1780-85
  • gold, enamel
  • 8.5cm., 3 1/4 in wide
of oval form, the lid inset with an enamel medallion painted with Hercules and Omphale within a rope and pellet frame, on a translucent blue ground, white enamel borders, Paris prestige marks including maker's mark FS (les Frères Souchay) in script, charge mark of Julien Alaterre and discharge mark of Julien Berthe (19ct Hanau standard mark)

Condition

Some restoration to dark blue enamel but generally good impression, particularly pleasing details such as the entwined blue enamel and gold mount to lid.
