Francois Rouan obtient en 1971 une bourse pour la Villa Médicis alors dirigée par Balthus. Jacques Lacan lui achète ses dessins avant que Pierre Matisse ne devienne son marchand à New York. En 1983, le Centre Pompidou organise une rétrospective de son œuvre.
Le tapis que nous présentons d'après l'oeuvre Ossuaire est typique de son oeuvre, le tressage qui fonde son œuvre et l'usage du grand format qui expriment avec force son talent de coloriste.

In 1971 Rouan won a scholarship to the Villa Medici under the direction of Balthus. Jacques Lacan collected his drawings and Pierre Matisse became his art dealer in New York. In 1983, the Centre Pompidou organized a retrospective of his work in Paris. The carpet offered here incorporates the braiding which is typical of his work and the large format offers a perfect canvas for him to demonstrate his talent as a colourist.
