Catalogue Note
Jules Deroubaix started working in Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann’s workshop rue d’Ouessant in Paris in 1926 where he became Ruhlmann’s favourite cabinet-maker, thanks to his flawless craftsmanship and outstanding performance. In 1931, he became the intermediary between Ruhlmann, the design studio and the workshops. Since Ruhlmann was not a cabinet-maker himself he used his practitioner’s talent to develop workable solutions for his designs. After Ruhlmann’s death in 1933, Jules Deroubaix developed his own creations, with elegant and harmonious proportions influenced by Ruhlmann. The archives of his collaboration with Ruhlmann are in the collections of the Musée des Années Trente, Boulogne-Billancourt.
