Catalogue Note

The Bal Proust, an extraordinary and extravagant costume ball commemorating the centennial of the writer's birth, was held at the Château de Ferrières, the country home of the Baron and Baroness Guy de Rothschild outside Paris. Cecil Beaton, dressed as the photographer Nadar, captured the guests on film, including Hélène Rochas as Odette de Crécy, the lover of Swann.
