Condition
some loss of gilding but colour original and very nice, also some wear to foliate decoration on ewer, but generally in good condition with clear marks.

La devise et le nom de la ville de Nîmes proviennent du romain Colonia Nemausus, soit colonie de Nemausus, du nom du dieu honoré par les Volques, peuple celte qui capitula devant Rome en 121 avant Jésus-Christ. Le crocodile enchaîné à un palmier est une allusion aux terres données par Jules César aux vétérans romains après les campagnes en Egypte, le palmier étant un symbole de victoire.
The city's name and motto COLNEM derives from Colonia Nemausus or settlement of Nemausus, God of the local tribe who surrendered to Rome in 121 BC.
