Condition

Some minor surface dirt which can be easily removed with some surface abrasion due to outside exposure of the marble. A few natural inclusions to the marble at several places. Very decorative marble in very good condition overall.

Catalogue Note

En 1594, le grand-duc Ferdinand acquière un lion en marbre antique pour sa résidence romaine, la villa Médicis et commande un second lion au sculpteur Flaminio Vacco pour former pendant au premier ; chacun destiné à être placé de part et d'autre du grand escalier menant aux jardins de la villa. En 1787, les deux marbres seront transférés à Florence puis placés dans la Loggia dei Lanzi où ils sont encore visibles aujourd'hui.
