Condition

Very good condition with some minor wear to the patina and a few scratches consistent with age and handling. Fine and crisp cast with fine chiselling and hammering to the surface, especially to the hair and the rocky terraces. Casting joints visible to Cupid's wings and to the Nymphe's proper right shoulder, where can be seen a casting plug. The gilt bronze bases with some minor oxydation and verdegris.

Catalogue Note

Le plâtre original de l'Amour menaçant fut exposé pour la première fois en 1755 et son marbre acclamé deux ans plus tard au Salon. Le modèle de la Nymphe, également appelée Psyché ou la Petite Fille cachant l'arc de l'Amour, semble avoir été réalisé par Falconet pour la Manufacture de Sèvres, dont il prit la direction de 1757 à 1766, en pendant à l'Amour menaçant. Ces sujets en biscuits de porcelaine tendre connurent un vif succès.
