Catalogue Note

A l'absolue modernité de l'image, offerte par l'épure de la forme et du décor (pictural et graphique) répond la délicatesse du bouquet de plumes blanches ponctuant le centre de ce bouclier, tel qu'elles ornaient également les coiffes des hommes Mangbetu. Voir Sotheby's (Paris, 12 décembre 2012, n° 117) pour un bouclier comparable, collecté entre 1890 et 1913.
