Catalogue Note
Béla Desco Hein (1883-1931) compta parmi ces artistes d'Europe centrale qui s'installèrent à Paris au début des années 1910. Il y fut l'un des "découvreurs" de l'art nègre, dont il constitua une collection majeure. En 1930, il participe à l'emblématique Exposition d'art africain et d'art océanien organisée par Charles Ratton, Tristan Tzara et Pierre Loeb, à la galerie du théâtre Pigalle. Hein y est l'un des plus importants prêteurs, avec vingt-huit œuvres dont cette corne à libation Bamum, à usage royal. Sa poignée en laiton est probablement la plus remarquable de ce corpus étroit, tant par son rare motif à deux têtes coiffées d'un bonnet à croisillons, que par l'exceptionnelle qualité de la fonte.
