Very good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Old indigeneous repairs to the proper right to the neck and the proper right front foot. Fine dark patina. Catalogue Note

Portée en cimier et dansée par paires au sein de la société Ci-wara pour célébrer l'union mythique de la terre et du soleil, cette sculpture se distingue par la dynamique des formes, superbement résumées à l'essentiel.
Ce style ancien, d'une modernité saisissante, provient selon Jean-Paul Colleyn de la région de Bamako ou du Belegu (Bamana, Un art et un savoir-vivre au Mali, 2002, p. 224, n° 213). Au sein de ce corpus restreint, elle s'apparente en particulier au cimier Ci-wara de l'ancienne collection Louis Carré, conservé dans les collections du Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (Kerchache, Paudrat et Stephan, L'Art Africain, 1988, p. 361, n° 371).
