Condition
This work is in generally good overall condition. The bearing of the upper panel is slightly wavy. There are few paper unevenness along the edges inherent to the artist's working method. There are light stretcher marks along the upper and lower margins. Along the lower margin are visible few light traces of water stains probably inherent to the artist's working method. There is a small restored tear on the paper by the upper left corner of the lower panel. There are three minor indentation marks along the lower margin and towards the center and to the right, and towards the center of the lower panel.

"Ampio, insoluto", cioè approssimativo, cosi Schifano definisce il suo lavoro. L'approssimazione è quella di forme ambigue, quelle assunte dalla memoria, quelle tracciate dalla mano imprecisa e sicura al tempo stesso, elegante e imperfetta, felicemente inesatta. [...] Approssimativo è anche il Mare (1963), con quei tocchi di onde azzurre accennate: "Per me la luce, il mare sono sempre stati molto importanti."
