Oblong folio (330 x 430mm.), 102 albumen prints (240 x 290mm., or the reverse), most signed and numbered in the negative by Bourne and a few by Bourne & Shepherd, mounted on card, recto and verso, most captioned on the mount in pencil, contemporary brown morocco gilt, upper cover titled 'Views in India', gilt edges, light scattered spotting, some fading to images, binding rather rubbed

Catalogue Note

A large collection of photographs, mostly by Bourne, and five by Bourne & Shepherd. When Bourne left India in 1870, Colin Murray took over as a photographer, but Bourne's name continued to be used and the negative numbering sequence continued. The photographs show views in Bombay (5), Poona (3), Ceylon (10), Tanjore (3), Trichinopoly (3), Calcutta (11), Benares (6), Lucknow (10), Cawnpore (3), Delhi (16), Umritsur, Lahore, Agra (12), Secundra (2), Futtypore Sikri (5), Gwalior, Jeypoor (3), Umbere (2), and the caves at Ellora (3).
