gouache heightened with gold on paper, wide border surrounded by black ruled lines

Condition

Painted area in generally good condition, colours bright, slight paint loss and some retouching of background. Borders with some scuffs and nibbles along edges. Ink stains and marks and inscription on back. As viewed.

Catalogue Note

The inscription on the reverse identifies the figure as Jagat Singh. One of the sons of Maharaja Jaswant Singh (r.1638-78) was named Jagat Singh and the present work may be a retrospective portrait of him.
