Catalogue Note

Stylistic comparisons can be drawn between the present miniature and a further illustration of 'Shirin Praying and Khosrow Hunting' from Nizami's Khamsa in the Aga Khan Museum Collection, Toronto (AKM00199). Executed in the mid-eighteenth century, both images share the vibrant colour associated with Hyderabadi painting of the period, and similarities can be drawn with the treatment of the horses and the various figures, many who share long Persianate moustaches, reminiscent of Shah Abbas (r.1587-1629).
