Catalogue Note

Formerly preserved in the vase was a handwritten note by Dietrich von Bothmer dating to a few years earlier than the 1978 auction. It included John Beazley's mailing address in Oxford and a preliminary attribution of the vase to the Painter of Louvre 161 (we are grateful to Andrew J. Clark for this information).
