  • Height 6 in. 15.2 cm.
probably from a chariot or wagon, of tapering hexagonal form surmounted by the head of a griffin, with erect ears and crested mane, the details carefully engraved, the rein-supports each terminating in the head of a duck.

The Estate of a Lady, acquired in Europe in the 1920s (Christie’s, New York, June 13th, 2000, no. 320, illus.)

Condition

Surface worn. Proper right ear of proper left duck-head terminal lost. Minor chip or casting flaw at bottom in front, visible in catalogue photograph.
