Description

  • An Etruscan Bronze Handle
  • bronze
  • Height 8 1/4 in. 21 cm.
in the form of a youth standing on a gorgoneion mask and wearing a partially crosshatched pleated garment falling from the left shoulder, the high concave handle chased on each side with an ovolo kymation, and terminating at the top in the forequarters of two rams back-to-back, attached by a rivet, and at the base in an inverted lotus flower.

Condition

Generally good and as shown. Note that proper right hand and most of forearm are missing. Surface somewhat worn and areas of light corrosion in places, especially the muzzles of the rams, which also have specks of bronze disease. The back of the figure of the youth, not intended to be seen, is roughly concave.
