Description

  • A Lucanian Red-Figured Bell Krater, attributed to the Anabates Painter
  • terracotta
  • Height 12 15/16 in. 32.9 cm.
decorated with a young athlete facing right, holding a strigil and stick, and attended by a youth holding a staff and wearing shoes and windblown cloak and a maiden wearing a chiton and offering the athlete a fillet, three conversing draped youths on the reverse.

Condition

Very good and intact, minor abrasions on the rim and foot. Traces of the Abbé H. Campbell inventory number 40 in ink remain on the chest of the athlete there is an area of hairline cracking to the left of the handle on the obverse.
