oval, scalloped turned-over rim with scrolling acanthus border, one side with presentation inscription, on shaped rococo base with four shell feet
Condition
two small drilled holes in rim above the presentation inscription probably for a plaque now missing, otherwise good condition

Catalogue Note
Inscription reads "Trophy for Single Masted Vessels Season 1896 Presented by Commodore Edward M. Brown". Mr. Brown was the commodore of the New York Yacht Club from February 1895 to February 1897. This trophy was awarded to the sloop, Wasp, sailed by the Lippitt Brothers on August 3rd. For more details, see John Parkinson Jr., The History of The New York Yacht Club, Volume One, p. 167.
