Catalogue Note

In 1967, DeLue was commissioned by the architects of the Prudential Center in Boston to create a monumental statue for the project.  The final work, a bronze, is 27 feet high and stands in front of the building.  The artist commented, "I behold this man as the doer, the creator and the builder, inspired by recognition of eternal values.." (Howlett, op.cit., 126).  The present work was created from a maquette De Lue made in 1969.  He was pleased enough with it to have it cast and perfected at the Roman Bronze Works in New York.  This work is unique.
