Condition

Very good condition for an object of this type and age. Shallow cavity running across tops of both legs. Very minor marks, nicks, dents, scratches, and abrasions. Exceptionally fine oxidized surface.

Catalogue Note

This magnificent figure, with rich scarification on front and back of the body, is a tour-de-force of Dogon blacksmithing art. The kneeling posture with the figure holding a bell in each hand is a praying position, poetically representing a devotee summoning the presence of divine forces.
