Catalogue Note
Réalisée par la manufacture pour l’Exposition Universelle de 1878, Paris, cette aiguière porte un décor représentant une chimère. Elle reprend la forme d’une précédente aiguière que Baccarat avait présenté à l’Exposition Universelle de 1867, Paris.
Tirant son origine de la mythologie grecque, la chimère est une créature composite au corps de chèvre, à la queue de dragon et à la tête de lion. le terme désigne également les animaux grotesques, fantastiques ou imaginaires utilisés dans les arts décoratifs au XVIe siècle.
Le XIXe siècle est marqué en Europe par un regain d’intérêt pour la Renaissance. Les objets d’art se parent de cartouches, d’arabesques et de figures grimaçantes imitant les ornements du XVIe siècle.
Sa forme élancée évoque les verres soufflés vénitiens de la Renaissance. Plusieurs exemples nous sont parvenus, notamment une aiguière en verre cristallo, actuellement conservée dans les collections du Musée du Louvre.
Ce bien est mis en vente par Baccarat
