Condition
Colour:
The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the colour of the canvas is slightly warmer and the red is brighter in the original.
Condition:
This work is in good condition. The stretcher is slightly warped at the bottom two corners and there is some very light canvas draw in the bottom right corner and some minor wear to the top right corner. Close inspection reveals a minute speck of paint loss along the top edge approximately 25 centimetres from the left corner and two losses to the black impasto in the centre of the work. There is a minute speck of paint lifting in the bright red pigment towards the top centre. There are a few drying cracks in the thick black impasto; notably towards the centre and left edge. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals some stabilisation to the black impasto towards the centre of the work.
