Condition

Overall in good condition. The oak surfaces throughout appear to be over-coated with a secondary surface application. The oak surfaces with surface scratches, abrasions, and edge wear with associated edge losses consistent with age and use, and a few small and minor white paint marks. The top of the chest with a partial dark ring mark in the left corner, abraded losses to each corner, and traces of a scattered transparent surface residue to the central reserved panel. The case with several seam separations consistent with the natural expansion and contraction of wood over time, and with one seam separation to the top lid. The wrought iron hardware with surface wear, discoloration, minor traces of surface corrosion and small scattered losses to the finish consistent with age. The cedar lined interior with some light surface scratches throughout. With abrasion marks to the interior top edge from surface contact over time with the iron hasps. An attractive example of this iconic form displaying a particularly deep and rich brown finish with russet highlights.
