Description

  • Philip and Kelvin LaVerne
  • "Tao" Side Table
  • engraved Philip Kelvin LaVerne
  • acid-etched, enameled and patinated brass

Provenance

Acquired directly from the artists, circa 1970s
Thence by descent to the present owner

Condition

Overall in very good condition. The enameled brass with some light surface scratches, rubbing, and light discolorations to the patina, consistent with the natural aging process of the material and gentle use. The table retains the original highly saturated coloration of the enameled surfaces, with bright blue and vibrant red highlights. The table top depicts a chinoiserie motif of an elegant domestic garden scene with figures entering an open-plan architectural space within a landscape. A wonderful small scale example of the form executed in great artistic detail.
