Description
- Luther Conover
- Console Table
- stained redwood and enameled steel
Condition
Overall in very good condition. The wood surfaces with a few very minor nicks, dings and surface scratches, with one shallow surface scratch located on the proper left portion of the table top extending from the tables edge and measuring approximately 3 ¾ inches in length. The proper right top edge of the table with evidence of a prior restoration to the surface and later finish. The proper right corner of the top with one restored edge loss measuring approximately ¾ inches in length. The lower shelf of the table with one area of discoloration to the front central edge, measuring approximately 1 ¼ inch in length, as seen in the catalogue illustration. The interior of the proper right drawer with some very light wax residue. The enameled metal surfaces with light surface scratches, scattered discolorations and surface dirt. With a few minute losses to the enamel localized to the top portions of the cylindrical legs. The elements of this work are modular and the intention of the design was executed to make the piece dynamic. There is a second configuration of the elements possible. The wrought iron footed elements can be turned 90 degrees and the two long boards can be placed sit by side, making for a wider configuration. The table displays richly figured grain that complement the aesthetic simplicity of the metal support frame. A wonderful mid-century piece with great attention to function.
