Description
- Paul T. Frankl
- "Skyscraper" Daybed
- with firm's "Skyscraper" tag
- lacquered and gilt wood with silk upholstery
Condition
Overall in very good condition. The wooden frame present with scattered surface scratches, edge abrasions and some minor discolorations. The painted surfaces throughout with scattered areas of rubbing and minor losses concentrated at the high points of the design, which is consistent with age and gentle use. Isolated portions of the gilt surfaces have been worn and rubbed and reveal a slightly less yellow metallic hue at the tops of the proper right and proper left backrests. With a few minor seam separations consistent with the natural expansions and contraction of the wood. The feet with more concentrated abrasions, scratches and minute edge losses as expected with age and use. The upholstery is later and executed in a manner and material consistent with the original design. The current ivory silk with a few minor isolated areas of concentrated light soiling as seen in the catalogue illustration. A wonderful example of Frankl modernist design aesthetic.
