Catalogue Note

Stuck's Amazon (1897) is often paired with his Wounded Centaur of 1890, which was his first major sculptural work. The Amazon is one of Stuck's best-known works and a life-size cast is at the Villa Stuck in Munich. Stuck won the gold medal at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1890. He was one of the founding members of the Munich Secession and taught such notable students as Kandinsky and Klee while at the Munich Academy.
