Condition

Overall the condition of the bronze is very good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There are a few white dirt marks, including to in the proper right armpit, to the back of the neck and to the legs. There are a few spots of greening, including to the buttocks and to between the legs. There is some wear to the patina at the back of the legs. There is a dark line running up the lower half of the proper right leg. There may have been a wire at the bow, as there are two holes at either end.

Catalogue Note

After completing his training at the Academy of Drawing in Hanau, August Bischoff studied at the Städel Institute of Art in Frankfurt between 1901 and 1904. In his sculpture ateliers in Frankfurt and Hanau he produced models for the precious metal industry in Hanau, which allowed him to travel to European artistic centres, including Paris, Rome and Berlin. The Archer is one of his most notable works.
