Condition

Overall the condition of the bronze is very good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The surface is covered in a black lacquer which has been worn away throughout, particularly at the terrasse. There are some minor scratches and abrasions to the patina. There is some minor greening, particularly in the ropes.

Achille d'Orsi was the founder of the influential Neapolitan movement of socio-realism in sculpture, which was an important precursor to the work of Gemito. His output was prolific and his works can be found in most of the major museums of Italy.
