Condition

Overall the condition of the sculpture is very good with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There are some small abrasions to the edges and corners of the marble. There is some slight wear to the gilt bronze patina, such as in the hands and in the hair. There is particular dirt in the crevices. There is some minor greening and a few dark marks in the crevices of the drapery and in the eyes. There are four screws in the back to connect the bronze to the marble. The bronze is numbered: V115.

Catalogue Note

Born in Aube, Boucher studied with Marcel Ramus in his home town before moving to Paris to study under Paul Dubois. He won a medal for his 1874 debut Salon exhibit of L'Enfant à la fontaine. In 1900 he was awarded a Grand Prix at the Exposition Universelle and was later made an Officier Grand Croix of the Légion d'Honneur in 1925.
