Condition

Executed on the wood panel from a cigar box, which is flat and even and apparently stable. The panel is keyed on the reverse and under raking light an old diagonal repaired crack is visible diagonally down the composition to the right of centre, however this is apparently without associated retouching as far as can be seen. Under ultra-violet light the old varnish layers fluoresce making the surface difficult to read however there appear to be only a couple of minor spots of retouching in the sky. This work is in good overall condition and could benefit from a surface clean. The colours are richer, with more depth and less of a yellow cast overall than in the catalogue illustration, which is also slightly larger than the painting. Presented in a decorative gilt frame with a nameplate.
