Condition

The overall appearance of this work is good and it is ready to hang. The panel is cradled and flat and even. There are three old vertical cracks in the panel in the background to the left of centre, approximately 12cm in from the left edge, which appear to be stable and are not particularly visually distracting. There are some localised small areas of paint shrinkage, notably in the background below the centre of the composition. Under ultra-violet light the old varnish layers fluoresce evenly and quite opaquely, and some minor scattered retouchings are visible notably to the aforementioned panel cracks, a few small spots in the upper right corner, and some spots at the left framing edge. Presented in a decorative coved and fluted gilt frame.
