Condition

The canvas has been relined. There is a pattern of stable hairline craquelure visible primarily in the sky. Ultraviolet light reveals strokes of retouching intermittently along the framing edges, and addressing craquelure in the sky around the figure with the flag in the centre of the composition and in the upper-right quadrant; apart from some scattered short, thin lines of retouching to craquelure, there is little retouching to the figures. This painting is in good condition and ready to hang. Presented in a decorative gilt frame.
