Condition

The panel is flat, even and ensuring a stable support. Ultraviolet light reveals some quite extensive retouchings in certain areas of the composition, notably in the lower part of the sky in the right half of the composition, in the grey shoreline in the middle-distance to the right, and some scattered spots around the mast of the boat to the left and at the framing edges. Some other areas, for example the sea, appear to fluoresce under ultra-violet light however this appears to be original. To the naked eye the overall appearance of the work is good and it is ready to hang. Presented in a decorative gilt frame, with a white-painted inner slip.
