Condition
This painting is in good condition and its appearance could likely be further enhanced if desired given a light surface clean. The colours in the original are overall rather less red than in the catalogue illustration.
The canvas has not been lined. There are very faint scattered horizontal lines of craquelure overall consistent with an unlined painting of this age and a few pinhead-sized spots of paint flaking notably in her scarf. Under ultraviolet light the varnish fluoresces somewhat unevenly and there appear to be just a few, very minor small spots of scattered retouching, notably one tiny spot in her hat, in her right arm, and in the figure in the upper right. Some of the pigments in the upper-left of the composition appear to fluoresce under U.V. light, however these would certainly appear to be the artist's original and not retouching.
Presented in an elaborate Florentine-style gilt frame, with openwork foliate motifs around the edge.
