Condition
The overall appearance of the work under normal light is good and it is ready to hang. The canvas has been laid onto panel which is flat and even, and there is some minor frame rubbing in the centre of the upper framing edge (not visible framed). Under ultraviolet light the old varnish fluoresces opaquely making the surface difficult to read with clarity, however a circa 6 by 5cm area of retouching below the figure's left shoulder and some intermittent strokes near the extreme edges are visible, and there are clusters of scattered small spots notably in the figure's left temple and hair and below his right eye, in the lower left of the chest, and in the red background.
Presented in a decorative gilt frame.
