Condition

The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.: This work has been recently and well restored. It should be hung in its current condition. The canvas has been lined with a non-acidic adhesive. There is a little frame abrasion that has been restored across the top and bottom edge, but the signature and date are uninterrupted by this retouching. There are no restorations or damages within the figure. Except for one restoration above the right forearm of the child, there are no restorations within the main body of the picture.

Catalogue Note

This charming portrait shows Marie-Louise, Munier's youngest daughter, in a pose that the artist must have been accustomed to seeing as he depicted her in this manner in several works. A notable variation of the present work is Marie-Louise's smile. This previously unknown work is the most recently discovered portrait of Marie-Louise among other examples sold in these rooms (April 23, 2004, lot 52, and October 23, 2008, lot 78).
